A Top Ranked Christian Education is More Affordable Than You Think

Introducing: Variable Tuition

A top ranked Christian education is now more affordable at Plumstead Christian School (PCS)! At PCS, no family pays 100% of the cost of education. Through the generous support of donors to our Annual Fund, our endowment, and other sources of income, no family pays more than 85% of what it actually costs to educate a student.

But we don’t stop there. We are excited to introduce a new, innovative tuition solution for current and new families: Variable Tuition.

Variable Tuition matches your tuition level to your family’s unique financial situation. This makes a Plumstead Christian School education affordable to many qualified students who would not otherwise be able to join our school community. With variable tuition, families pay tuition in a range between 50%-100% of the maximum tuition level.

Families interested in variable tuition submit a confidential online application to a trusted, third-party agency. Based on their recommendation and our Variable Tuition committee review, your Variable Tuition rate is determined.

Variable Tuition will make our great school even greater — growing a diverse school community that reflects God’s kingdom while enriching the educational experience for every student.

For more information on this exciting new program, please watch the video above. We invite you to speak directly with our Director of Admissions as you consider Plumstead Christian School. It will be our privilege to serve your family.

Frequently Asked Questions

general_questions

How is a Top-Ranked Christian education affordable at Plumstead Christian School?
A PCS education is affordable for two reasons. First, no family at Plumstead Christian School pays more than 85% of what it costs to educate a student. This is made possible through the generous financial support of donors to our Annual Fund, our endowment, and other sources of income. Second, PCS is introducing our new Variable Tuition program.

What is Variable Tuition?
Variable Tuition is not a “one-size-fits all” tuition approach. Tuition costs range from 50-100% of the maximum tuition level and matches your child’s tuition rate to your family’s unique financial situation. This makes a Plumstead Christian School education accessible to many qualified families who would not otherwise be able to join our school community.

How Does Variable Tuition Work?
All families with children entering K-12th grades are eligible for Variable Tuition. PCS encourages families who think that they may be unable to pay the maximum tuition level to submit a confidential application. Families should apply for a FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment through the FACTs website. Based on their assessment and our Variable Tuition Committee review, each family’s tuition rate is determined.

What Factors are considered when determining my Variable Tuition rate?
Many factors are considered including income, assets, unusual expenses, family size, and the number of children currently attending PCS.

When may families apply for Variable Tuition?
New families may apply for Variable Tuition in conjunction with their application process. Current families may apply for the following year starting in December and during the continued enrollment period.

Is it possible for a family or the school to estimate the Variable Tuition rate for which a family qualifies without the completion of a Variable Tuition application?
Unfortunately, no. Families will need to go through the process of submitting a confidential application to FACTS, our trusted, third party agency. Their assessment is essential in determining each family’s variable tuition rate.

Do new families need to apply to Plumstead Christian School to receive confirmation of their Variable Tuition rate?
Yes (the admissions application may be done in conjunction with the application for Variable Tuition through FACTS).

When will I receive notification of my Variable Tuition rate?
After you have submitted the FACTS application, the confidential process generally takes 2-4 weeks as long as all required information has been submitted to FACTS (our confidential, third party agency).

Should every new Plumstead Christian School family submit an application for Variable Tuition?
Every family who thinks that they may be unable to pay the maximum tuition level is welcome to submit an application.

Do I need to apply for Variable Tuition every year?
Yes, a new application must be submitted every year.

If I do not qualify for the program this year, can I apply again next year?
Yes, we recognize a family’s unique financial situation may change from year to year. A family that does not qualify one year is welcome to reapply the following year.

Do I need to apply for admission separately from applying for Variable Tuition?
Yes. For new students, application to Plumstead Christian School and application for Variable Tuition are two separate processes. However, new families may complete both application processes simultaneously.

Will applying for Variable Tuition impact my child’s acceptance to the school?
No. Admission applications and Variable Tuition applications are evaluated separately, and an application for Variable Tuition has no bearing on the child’s acceptance.

What is the typical financial situation of a family who qualifies for Variable Tuition?
Because each family’s financial situation is unique, there is no typical profile. A wide range of families with a variety of circumstances qualify for the program. Many factors are evaluated when determining each family’s variable tuition rate including income, assets, unusual expenses, family size, and current PCS enrollment.

Does Plumstead Christian School have a multi-child discount?
While some schools provide multi-child discounts to families whether they need it or not, PCS does not. The Variable Tuition model more generously considers each family’s unique financial situation, including family size and number of children in the family attending PCS. We encourage families with more than one child to apply for a Variable Tuition rate.

Are some families awarded full tuition?
No. Every family is required to make a financial investment in their child’s education. Our commitment to providing Variable Tuition means that we are sharing in that investment with you.

What expenses can be expected other than tuition?
Families will still be responsible to pay the $200 school application fee, $30 FACTS application fee, $60 testing fee per child, and $250 bus fleet fee. Each student will also incur expenses related to lunch, co-curricular activities, PIAA required athletic fee (should the student elect to pay a sport), school supplies, and uniforms.

Are all admitted students offered Variable Tuition if the family qualifies?
Yes. All students who are accepted and qualify for Variable Tuition will receive a Variable Tuition rate. It is, however, recommended that families apply for Variable Tuition as early as possible.

Do Variable Tuition ranges include scholarships and additional discounts?
In addition to Variable Tuition, some scholarships, credits, and discounts will remain available based on each family’s unique financial situation.

Will Variable Tuition lead to larger classes?
In some situations, yes. The Plumstead Christian School Board has established guidelines for maximum class sizes. Because of this commitment, there may be grade level waiting lists. Within those limits, we will continue to accept qualified, mission-appropriate students.

Does Variable Tuition apply to the Preschool and Pre-kindergarten program?
Variable tuition only applies to the Kindergarten through 12th grade program at PCS.

Who should I contact with questions about Variable Tuition?
Questions about Variable Tuition should be directed to Mark Miquel, Director of Finance.

Why is Plumstead Christian School implementing this new Variable Tuition program?
PCS wants to help change the perception of affordability and make a top-ranked Christian school education accessible to more families. This program is part of the school’s enrollment growth strategy. Growing enrollment will help us maintain and enhance both academic and co-curricular programming that will benefit every student.

How is Variable Tuition different from the previous tuition assistance model?
The previous tuition assistance model gave qualifying families limited available funds to meet a fixed tuition cost. The Variable Tuition model can be applied to every qualifying family at all times according to their unique financial situation, however, if a class is at capacity, the student is subject to a waiting list.

Should every returning Plumstead Christian School family submit an application for Variable Tuition?
We encourage any family who thinks that they may not able to pay the maximum tuition level of the Variable Tuition range to submit an application.

Do I need to apply for Variable Tuition every year?
Yes. A new application must be submitted every year.

If I do not qualify for the program this year, can I apply again next year?
Yes, we recognize a family’s unique financial situation may change from year to year. A family that does not qualify one year is welcome to apply the following year.

Do returning students receive priority over new students when applying for Variable Tuition?
Yes. A returning student’s seat is reserved during the continued enrollment period as long as financial deadline requirements are met. In the case that those deadlines are not met, a returning family may be subject to a waiting list.

Do I need to complete my online continued enrollment packet separately from my application for Variable Tuition?
Yes. For returning students, the continued enrollment packet and Variable Tuition application are submitted separately.

What is the typical financial situation of a family who qualifies for Variable Tuition?
A wide range of families with a variety of circumstances qualify for the program. Because each family’s financial situation is different, variable tuition rates are matched to each family’s unique financial situation within the variable tuition range. Many factors are evaluated when determining each family’s rate including income, assets, unusual expenses, family size, and current PCS enrollment.

Are some families awarded full tuition?
No. Every family is required to make a financial investment in their child’s education. Our commitment to providing Variable Tuition means that we are sharing in that investment with you.
