The thrill and excitement of learning to read and write is foremost in most young children’s minds. Our language arts program includes phonics, weekly sight words, writing, great literature and center activities. Children become authors and illustrators very early in the year. We also have a handwriting program which will correctly teach the children how to hold pencils and paper, and how to sit properly and form their letters most naturally.
Math covers a wide range of topics throughout the year. Singing, literature and hands on experiences from everyday life are all a part of this curriculum. Some of the areas we will cover this year include numbers 0-30, number comparisons, sequences, coins/money, time, measurement, fractions, addition, subtraction, and ordinal numbers. We also begin learning to memorize basic math addition facts.
Exploring God’s world - past, present and future- is what makes up our science and Bible curriculum. Our science program covers our five senses, weather, colors and mixing, movement, the farm, life cycles and an ocean habitat. We also expand this exploration through weekly scheduled classes in art, music, physical education, library, computer lab, and various field trips. Plumstead offers both a full-day and a half-day kindergarten experience.
Some highlights of our year include:
